Daily Archives: January 2, 2018

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits—Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, Who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103: 1-5, NIV)

If you’re anywhere near the physical age bracket into which I (don’t feel that I) fit, you may experience some of the same feelings I do when the calendar year turns over or yet another birthday speeds by.

“Lord!   You’ve given me so many assignments, and the time I have to accomplish them is whizzing by!”

Even if you’re younger, you may be lamenting how little time you have to achieve what you believe God wants you to have.  On top of that, all kinds of situational problems may be masquerading as impossible barriers to accomplishment.

But God’s not stumped by any of it.  He has made covenant provisions for you and me to take into 2018 and into all the rest of our lives.

David, the writer of Psalm 103, was not in some ethereal sweet spot when he was commanding his soul (mind, choice, emotions) to bless the Lord! He had some very big problems.  However, David did what we can do, and we can do even better (for Jesus brought an even better covenant).  Instead of ruminating about all his problems, he remembered and mentally rehearsed all that God had promised.  David reminded himself that his God freely gave:

~forgiveness of sin;

~healing of sickness;

~deliverance from life’s “pits;”

~the experience of being Loved and treated with compassion;

~the satisfaction of good desires with good things;

~even renewed youth! (Big smile!)

Well, now, if all of that doesn’t give you encouragement, hope, and confidence for the New Year, meditate on it over and over until it sinks in.  God is faithful to His promises.  Go in His strength, and be diligent about the daily actions toward the callings He has given you the privilege of fulfilling. In Christ, this is your year because it’s His year for you!

I’m excited about 2018, Lord.  I can’t wait to see what all You will do in my life and the lives of those You have assigned me to touch in Your Name. I pray, God, for every person reading this message.  Infuse each one of us with the vivid awareness of all You are within us.
