God has made the one as well as the other. (Ecclesiastes 7: 14)
You heard me right. I do not wish you a Happy New Year.
You see, happiness is fleeting; it is situational. Happiness shares a root word with “happenings.” So if the happenings, or situations, in your life suddenly shift in a negative direction, your happi-ness is out the window.
You can’t afford for your spiritual and emotional well-being to be dependent upon external events that are outside your control. Jesus promised, “In this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome…” Christ was letting you know that the state of your soul is not dependent on your state of affairs. In Him, you can rise above your circumstances. Don’t ever say again, “I’m doing OK, UNDER the circumstances!” You don’t have to be under your circumstances!
So, my wishes for you are much deeper than “happiness.”
I wish you PEACE, which God will give you even in the midst of stormy circumstances.
I pray for you PERSEVERANCE, the ability to persist despite opposition or adversity.
I hope you find and express PURPOSE, the ability to make a difference in your own unique way in your assigned area of the planet. (And I am committed to help as many as I can with this one!)
For many of us, 2018 was a very tough time. I believe with my every fiber that 2019 is going to be a turnaround year- if you stop waiting for your situations to resolve for you to be all right. . As we emerge out of the triumphs and the difficulties of this past year, may we make a fresh commitment to God, to enduring hope, and to a divinely-energized life!
Lord, we move into 2019 in YOU. In You, we have peace, perseverance, and purpose! No matter what happens, You don’t change. Teach us to live in all that You are!
