How gracious He will be when you cry for help! As soon as He hears, He will answer you. Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30: 19-21)

Have you ever had those times in your life in where one more thing in a string of things hits, and you feel like throwing up your hands and saying, “What next?!? Can I just not catch a break here?”

But maybe, just maybe, that latest in a string of events is chipping away at something in your life that is holding you back. Perhaps the painful letting go of various false forms of security is an essential part of going deeper in your relationship with God, your true Source. Is it possible that these troubles are critical training and preparation for a new and better way to live in your future?

It’s a physically-observable principle that the old has to be cleaned out to make way for the new. Right now, I’m getting ready to sell my house and build another.  You sell your house, and you have to do the grueling work of going through, throwing away, and moving your “stuff” so that someone else’s “stuff” can be moved in. (And by the way, most of it IS “stuff.”) You get new furniture for the living room, but the living room already has old furniture. You can’t put the new sofa on top of the old one; the old one has to go. We could go on with examples, but you certainly understand the principle.

So what if the parts of your life that are falling apart are doing so for a purpose? Do you have ways of thinking, doing, and being that need to be discarded so that you have room for new ideas, strategies, relationships, and plans? Have you been putting your faith and trust in the wrong things or the wrong people? When it seems that God could and should just fix this, is it possible that He really is at work to help you grow into your better self?

You see, sometimes things have to fall apart in order to really come together.

Lord, sometimes I get anxious when things seem to be totally falling apart. I want to trust You more, knowing that You see the beginning from the end, and You know how all the pieces fit together.  You will work all things together for my good because I love You, and I am called according to Your purposes.  Clean out anything that is in the way of the new things You have in store for me.
